A contemporary interpretation of Piha’s distinctive West Coast landscape, Girl on Beach – Piha combines a pared-back palette of sky blue, cream and black with a strong graphic composition. The figure is set against the expansive simplicity of Piha beach, creating a work that captures the atmosphere and unmistakable character of Auckland’s West Coast.
The work received a Merit Award at The Trust Awards 2023, with judges Matt Dowman, Chris van Doren and Mandy Patmore praising its “excellent technique”, “essence of the West” and “good use of positive/negative spaces”.
